Hello guys, i came back to 2D 1 week ago, entered some servers from my country (cs2d argentina community) and met some old people i used to know, after talking for a bit, they all have a same goal; revive cs2d.
But the question here is.. how?, well, i've been thinking and actually, it's 2023 but this game still has alot of potential, "nah cs2d is dead because of the graphics".. well actually no.. have you guys seen the game BattleBit? It has fkin unturned graphics and yet it sold the triple as the new Battlefield game.. but why?, apart from having what alot of players wanted and good gameplay.. the propaganda, i've seen alot of tiktoks and streams of this game, and that's what made the game also more popular..
There's a few old players that are coming back, some alive servers too. it's just a mather of propaganda, what if we or DC pay for advertising?.. or we all could just record a fragment of gameplay, and upload it to tiktok, instagram reels, youtube, etc?? It would gather alot of attention and popularity again.. Some people would go like: "omg we have to try this game" and some would go like: "cs2d alive in 2023? damn i have to try it out again"..

This game isn't dead yet, as i said, it has alot of potential yet, we can make it come back to it's prime, we just need to get together as a community and advertise it everywhere, to make people talk about it again

I know @user DC: said he didn't want to update the game anymore, but i think it's a bit neccesary too, to bring new stuff.. and i'm not talking about "pls pls add new weapons and new graphics pls".. Nah, i'm talking about a new ways to play the game, for example.. it would be interesting to try basing the game on csgo, than cs 1.6, by this i mean: gun prices, economy system, well maybe even matchmaking and etc?.. i know it's possible with lua, but adding an option would be nice, i think it would be fun and interesting, don't get me wrong, i love this game how it is, but maybe a small change wouldn't hurt anyone?.

Well idk, what do you guys think?. is it possible to revive this game, do you have any ideas or comments?

@user StirlizZ-Fapicon: yeah, right.

The game might be fully remade on the another engine with absolute same mechanics but without bugs, more modable almost open source. The game might support a thing like "build-in" custom scripts to have no much problems with net, when players join and see no cooldown bcs script is delayed due to the connection speed, location of the server/player. Cs2d should support many sprites/particles like other big games which moreover uses high-res textures.

Also balance, since cs2d is mirror-balanced, where all players start with + - identical abilities it should have weapon balance to make any weapon actual and usable in case ur low money(thats why pistols should work in standard recoil like it is in dynamic recoil but maybe lower damage).

The hitreg might be reworked and made it more responsive, to see no blood when u hit but in fact u miss.

If I ever be a nice programmer and sure in my skills - I will make it from 0. But as long as I'm 0 as a game maker so no way right now. DC was making this game alone but started it long ago and slowly making it meanwhile grow up.

So currently no chance until somebody like SQ would make the game from 0 on the another engine using cs2d's current source code to make these mechanics but better/stable/fixed/working etc.

About "yt,tiktok" etc - we should have a guy who know game mechanics, whos actually scripter or just a "soldier" in game and know it's all aspects so u can tell something to people, stable making videos like others explore DOTA or stream CS-series.

^Everything that is not about current cs2d, it's "Final" status actually does not fit it's bugs, hitreg, gfx, sfx. - the more problem is that most GFX, SFX, MODS is made by user, he can use low-quality graphics, bad quality sounds and poor mapping. The game itself after SQ updated gfx and standard maps - looks pretty nice(like it was with CS and CSS), but in the arsenal of maps we see old ones that not played anymore/yet but has outdated gfx(tilesets, sprites).

noway bro, noway.
/sorry me for my english, I'm not using translators.

I guess I already stated often enough that CS2D's foundation/tech/engine is too outdated so it doesn't make much sense to invest a lot of time updating it at this point.

Also creating a new CS2D is something which can't be achieved easily. People who have a full time job simply don't have enough time to finish such a project - unless they are insanely motivated and basically do nothing but working on that project in their spare time. I think that I only managed to finish my older games because I had much more time (and probably also motivation) when I was younger and still went to school / university.

Feel free. But personally I don't want to burn my money. Advertising a 100% free game which doesn't generate revenue is questionable and can't be sustainable.

For that reason I've started working on thread cs2d CS2D Mobile Dev. Blog (#25)
Even though there's hardly any time available to me, I am still sometimes casually working on this.
I wish to work on it, but as of late my lighting has more active users than CS2D, so that's where focus went as it a better business plan altogether.

Last time I've heavily pushed DC for steam release, spent hundreds of hours doing overhaul (and braking the game of course)... yet I am barely credited anywhere. I don't mind, but that's not motivating.

@user SQ is absolutely right. If you want to relive CS2D somehow, start promoting his work of CS2D mobile version if you can. It might even be that we'll get a PC port for it later on.

CS2D was alive about a month ago, but it has died again. CS2D is getting quite old, and the people who used to play it are probably dead. Old games tend to be forgotten, you know, but it's still one of the best games I've ever played. I won't forget it!

@user NanuPlayer:

Newcomers are directed to poorly scripted and laggy servers due to Quick Play, resulting in their initial impression of the game being quite negative. Ever since the implementation of this feature, the game's quality has noticeably declined. Imo, this feature should be removed and the server list ordered by latency instead of players, it used to be like that and it worked perfectly fine.

And why don't we think a way on making it sustainable?, maybe by adding ads, or even a donation link, you didn't have the chance of doing something like this before? i don't think it's a bad idea..
I don't think it's right to let this game die, as i said, it has alot of potential, maybe you don't have time, but, how about other people with more available free time and trustworthy that could help you with the game?

user SQ I like it, it looks pretty good, i love how the fog of war fades away players partially and not squarelly lol, is this going to be only a mobile port or pc also?

You know what i think?, we should fuse with other communities to have these servers hosted in different parts of the world not only Brazil, i mean, your servers are pretty good scripted and it would make the servers more interesting and enjoyable, it's not a bad idea right?. We are all cs2d old players trying to revive the game somehow, working together would be nice

Only way to revive the game is starting from scratch on a new crossplatform engine such as Unity, for example.

The easiest way to bring back more activity in cs2d is to fuse the remaining communities including the servers, so only a few servers are left, where all the people gather together. That would mean that not every user could create a new server which shows up on the server list. Otherwise the player base gets divided, they can't bond with any server since always new ones appear and disappear.

Once that is done, we gotta organize events. We might not have the manpower and the player numbers so cs2d is 24/7 full of players. But we probably have enough players so the servers can be full on certain times in the week.

So basically we gather all people at one place at one time.

Way more easy to establish such a structure than updating the game in hope that new people might come.

@user Kingakis: That's what i'm thinking also, one big community with servers in europe, usa, and latam, etc. But it's hard to organize..
btw, your name sounds familiar, i know you from somewhere lol

If only CS2D could switch between Goldsource and Source stuff simultaneously, have Source-like physics, have something similar to Garry's Mod, possess full Half-Life 1 and 2 expansions, have a workshop with scripted maps, weapons and stuff, then it would have been a blast to play.
It was truly an End of the Millenia game with a lot of memories on it even during the Early-Mid 2010's (2010-2015), the Golden Age of the Internet.
It's just that it died too fast and no one got their butts up en-masse to play when it released on Steam. In 2014 this was already exacerbated by DDoS botnet attacks from a single person, shutting down often a dozen servers and affecting UnrealSoftware.de itself, which simply caused more people to gradually leave over time.
Also, did i mention that even this game didn't dodge the FNAF craze that started around the time? True nostalgia.

@user AlexGuy: that's why in 2013 I closed my community and stopped playing, then the global health crisis came and I decided to recreate everything from scratch.

Anyway it's still possible to make physics via Lua.

Anyway this everything is useless talk.

@user Gaios: I have people from argentina, anyway, they say that this has been tried already and didn't work
I was thinking like making a CS2D Discord, adding different countries categories, clans, etc.. dunno if it would work

It might not work since the current administrators of independent communities would lose some of their control. Personally, I'm quite satisfied managing my own CS2D community on Discord, which is currently one of the largest. My CS2D server already accommodates 3 languages, and that likely contributes to attracting a diverse audience. I'm now looking to address this matter on Discord too.

@user mrc: this sounds very nice. Maps also should look now very detailed, having many props like in cs:go so it might look fresh, at least competitive maps as first.
But It's requires work and time and being skilled to draw small props which resolution is very limited (less than 32 pixels)
