And to contribute to the topic, joystick and splitscreen wouldn't make sense in CS2D.

I think yes
You can play on the net two players in a server, as there is multiplayer functionality in CS2D. But playing with joystick, that's not really possible in this point in time.

If you want to use a joystick, take XPadder - google it. You can configure normal buttons to a gamepad, I also played Minecraft etc. with it.

split screen is not possible. this is not a 20 year old console game.
