In adventure mode, default adventure, first island, there are two kind of plants: the first explodes and hurts when you go close (located in the lions territory), the second smells bad (I guess) and hurts too (located where you find the wool). Are they good for something? And the bone you receive at the start, is it usefull?
The two plants you spoke of are not really good for anything, other that obstacles. If you time it just right, you can shoot the exploding mushrooms when a Lion is near - I won't kill him, but it will do significant damage.
The plant with green fumes coming out of it is really just there to be an annoyance. There are times when items are near those plants, and going to get the items will cause you damage because you are too close. And other times when animals are after you, and you walk over them and get some damage. Other than that - nothing special.

however there might be maps were those items are used for quests.
the range of that plant is pretty low
and im playing the mountain map its really fun
but is there a goal in it? The goal is... to survive!
But if you build a hut or, I think, a wooden house, then you'll get the key for the indestructible crate and you'll unlock some new events in the island... And you'll be able to leave that insland.
Ops sorry, is the mountain map the first island? Nope right? Well, this is a useless post!
