Hello everyone,

First of all I must say I have missed this community a lot and it's good to be back. Second, sorry for this 'strange' title I've chosen, but probably after you'll read the content you shall understand what's it about.

So, I'm working on some stuff and I'd like to use sprites from CS2D, but also user-made. ( of course giving credits ) Now, the problem : Not all sprites are placed on a transparent background, since some users use masks in the editor. Therefore, I'd like to ask you how to use Photoshop to remove those black, white or magneta backgrounds. For example, go to your sprites folder and open the default tree sprite. It's a white tree on a black background. I'll replace the white color with a green of course, but I need to get rid of that black background first.

If you know how it's done, I'd appreciate your help.

Thank you,
Mapmaker.

You'll need to find out if Photoshop has a "Fill selector" tool. Set it's resolution to 0% and then select the purple, black, whatever background and then delete the selected portion.

EDIT: A bit of googling gives me this.

I'm not sure if I understood it correctly, but it can be done with GIMP. I've found this. Pretty-easy method to remove magenta background color. I also remove this background by using fuzzy select many times with shift key. Paths in GIMP would be nice to select something perfectly, too.
